Lake Taupo region a complete paradise not just for Fishing!

There are two sides to the Lake Taupō region. The relaxing and tranquil side many visitors crave is abundant with several thermal hot pools and spas, quiet walking trails, world class golf courses and many beautiful scenic attractions. For the adventure seeker, heart pumping activities like skydiving, mountain biking, bungy jumping and jet boating can be found all around the lake.

This is a water lover’s paradise. Boating, sailing, swimming, kayaking and parasailing are all sought after activities on the crystal blue lake which, along with the region’s rivers, also enjoys a reputation as one of the world’s best trout fishing destinations.

The Lake Taupō region is bustling with boutique shops, cozy cafes and award winning restaurants. Bring the whole family and visit the many attractions and museums that celebrate the area’s vibrant culture and history.

Summer Fly fishing trips (October – April)

Superb backcountry fly fishing, rivers and streams accessed by comfortable 4WD. Nymph and dry fly fishing for wild brown and rainbow trout that will happily take a well presented fly.

Coming in to New Zealand:

If you are coming in to New Zealand from another country please check our new regulations that have been put in place by New Zealand Immigration, October 2019. We want you to make your fishing trip, so if you are unsure please check with your travel agent or check online here if you need a visa or a NZeTA.

Cancellation Policy:

If you cancel a booking within 30 days of your trip a 25% cancellation fee applies. If you cancel within 48 hours or less a 100% cancellation fee applies. Cancellation due to the weather / river conditions is at the discretion of the guide; alternative fishing options will be discussed and agreed upon on the day.

Fishing Equipment:

Should you require gear, whether you are an experienced angler or novice I can outfit you to suit your needs. Most people prefer to use their own gear, so feel free to bring it with you. We use Sage fishing rods and Simms breathable waders and boots

Winter Fly fishing trips (May – September)

Fly fishing Taupo’s famous Steelhead rivers. These fish average just under 4lbs and fight like bucking bronco.
One or Two Anglers are the same PRICE

What to Bring:

What you need to bring along – fishing gear (optional, Quality Gear available), rain coat, suitable clothing and camera. Heli fly in – Available Oct- April, price available on request.

Rods:

Depending upon the time of the year I can supply rods from 5 wt to 6 wt for the dry fly in the Summer to 7 wt to 9 wt for nymphing the Winter runs.

Waders:

From 1st October, 2008 felt soled boots were banned for fishermen in New Zealand.  I can supply rubber soled boots and breathable waders for the warmer Summer months and neoprene waders for the colder months of Winter if preferred.

Terminal Tackle:

All quality flies and tackle are supplied by me at no additional cost to you.

Reels:

I can match the reel and line weight to the rod chosen for the day or for the type of fishing we are doing.  Preference of left hand or right hand retrieve reels are available to suit your technique.
